Calm Minds and Strong Lungs: Pinwheel Breathing with Dr. Den

Pinwheels can be a fun and easy way to help kids slow their breathing and calm their minds!

They can also help to strengthen the lungs and respiratory muscles.

Pinwheel breathing increases lung capacity, elevates oxygen saturation and relaxes the nervous system.

How to Practice Pinwheel Breathing

  1. Have your child find a comfortable position: Sit or lie down and relax the shoulders.
  2. Inhale: Take a slow, deep breath in through the nose, allowing the belly to get big.
  3. Exhale: Hold the pinwheel a few inches from the mouth and blow out slowly and steadily to make it spin.
  4. Challenge: Try to see how long you can keep the pinwheel spinning on a single breath.
